Lake George Named to Top 10 Clearest Lakes in the US

Nestled in the southeastern Adirondacks, rests the Queen of American Lakes. As residents, we often take the lake’s beauty for granted, but it is truly one of the most beautiful lakes in the United States. In fact, Lake George was recently named to a list of the Top 10 Clearest Lakes in the US!

Largely protected by its topography, the lake also boasts drinking water quality. According to the Lake George Association and New York State, the water in Lake George is grade AA-special drinking water. Surrounded by mountains, which allow very little large-scale development or farming, the lake has not been harmed by runoff. In addition, the lake is so deep that the pollutants, silt, and sediment that do enter the lake through its tributaries are quickly diluted – allowing the lake to essentially clean itself.
