I have worked in four different real estate agencies during my 40+ years as a real estate broker on Lake George, and I’ve developed many opinions about how best to structure a real estate office and ensure its success.

Every Successful Real Estate Agency Needs an Office Manager

In order for any office to run smoothly, it needs an Office Manager. In a real estate office, the Office Manager is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the business, including answering phones, filing and various administrative tasks. In addition, he or she should handle the real state agency’s advertising, manage the website, and regularly check that postings on other listing sites are correct.

Teamwork Builds a Better Office

When the real estate office is in good hands, the brokers and agents can focus on what they do best – list and sell properties. In a successful real estate office, brokers and agents work together as a team, rather than as individuals. The Office Manager rotates phone prospects as they come in, and routes phone calls about specific listings to the listing agent. In a team environment, when an agent becomes overloaded, they can share their customers and listings with the other brokers and agents in the office.

The premise is rather simple really. If you want to structure a real estate office for success, hire an office manager, build a team, lighten the load and spread the wealth so that all full-time agents can make a good living.
